The QUALITY of the HEART: Understanding or Ignorance
When you hear ministers of the Word of God teach, or when we read in the Word matters concerning the HEART of man, we do not refer to the fleshly organ itself. We refer to the inmost of man which is his ruling love, i.e. his deepest affection.
To hear or not to hear is of the heart. To see or not to see is of the heart. To understand or not to understand is of the heart. The heart is man’s innermost affection that rules his entire life. That affection is his king, his dictating principle. That ruling affection has dominance over his life. His heart, his principle affection determines what he will understand, whether it be darkened or lighted.
A hard heart is like the wayside hearer receiving the seed of the Word. It cannot fall into the heart deeply enough to gain root and become productive in the life of man. False perceptions like fowls of the air will come steal the seed of the Word of God from the grounds of the hard heart.
Pro 8:5 – O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, BE YE OF AN UNDERSTANDING HEART.
Isa 6:10 – Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, and convert, and be healed.
Pro 2:2 – So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and APPLY THINE HEART TO UNDERSTANDING;
Pro 20:5 – COUNSEL IN THE HEART OF MAN IS LIKE DEEP WATER; BUT A MAN OF UNDERSTANDING WILL DRAW IT OUT.
Eph 4:18 – Having the UNDERSTANDING DARKENED, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the BLINDNESS OF THEIR HEART:
Rom 10:10 – For WITH THE HEART man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Give me a tender heart, O God. Give me a heart of understanding that I might gladly receive wisdom and understanding that the least little seed of the Word may take root and become a great, productive harvest that it may be, not only bread for the table to feed the hungry but also grain for the sower also.
From the heart flow forth the issues of life:
Pro 4:23 – Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life
IT is my prayer that this truth will sink deeply into your own heart and that your prayer too would be for a heart of understanding and wisdom. If so, you and I can be a beacon of light and warm loving inviting fire in a cold world of hate and rejection.
Let your prayer also be, “O God, give me a heart like unto your own heart that I too may be able to receive divine understanding.”
